Discover labiaplasty, also known as nymphoplasty, with Clinic Nobel, a procedure designed to reshape the genital lips and harmonize their appearance. The genital lips, including the labia minora and majora, can vary in size and appearance between women and may change over time, especially after childbirth.
Labiaplasty involves the removal of excess skin and/or fat to achieve a more symmetrical and aesthetic appearance of the labia minora. Two main techniques are used: the triangular resection, which removes a triangular portion of excess skin, and the longitudinal resection, which removes mucosa along the lip. The choice of technique depends on the individual needs and anatomy of each patient.
The labiaplasty procedure, usually performed in less than an hour under general anesthesia, is carried out on an outpatient basis at Clinic Nobel.
The day before the procedure, the patient should perform intimate hygiene with an iodine-based antiseptic product and maintain a fast for at least 6 hours.
After the procedure, the patient should follow an antibiotic treatment for a few days and disinfect the operated area daily. Returning to work is possible 3 to 4 days after the procedure, although baths and sexual activity are discouraged for at least 3 weeks.
Although the labia minora may exceed 4 cm, sometimes causing discomfort, other factors may motivate a labiaplasty. Some women desire an appearance similar to that of pornographic models, but every vulva is unique. For others, daily activities such as sports or wearing tight clothing can cause friction and discomfort. Additionally, hypertrophied labia minora may interfere with sexual activity, causing pain. The role of the doctor is to assess whether the complaint is valid or influenced by unrealistic expectations propagated by pornography.
The postoperative period for labiaplasty is generally straightforward, and most complications are minor. The stitches used are absorbable, eliminating the need for removal after surgery. Minor complications that may occur in the days following the procedure include slight swelling of the labia minora, bruising, and a feeling of discomfort or tension, sometimes accompanied by pain. However, these symptoms usually resolve within about ten days. Although rare, a skin, vaginal, or urinary infection may occur but can be treated quickly. The final result of labiaplasty is visible approximately 6 weeks after the procedure, and scars are generally inconspicuous.
