To treat wrinkles, it's time for surgery without a scalpel. In aesthetic medicine, in the range of anti-wrinkle injections, hyaluronic acid (HA) is the favorite substance of practitioners. Renowned without major risks, HA is useful for filling nasolabial folds (around the wings of the nose) and bitterness folds. Thanks to hyaluronic acid, pique is cheerful!
With age, the skin becomes dehydrated and becomes thinner. It renews itself less well and relaxes. So much so that fine lines begin to appear, followed by the dreaded wrinkles.
For women who want to fight against these effects of aging, without pain, hyaluronic acid stands out as the star solution. It fills in wrinkles without side effects (or almost) and its consequences are less serious than cosmetic surgery. It is ideal for filling fine and deep wrinkles.

What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in our body. It is used to maintain a good level of hydration in our skin by capturing water and keeping it in the deep layers. HA is a molecule that acts like a sponge.
The principle of an injection of hyaluronic acid
No need for heavy anesthesia or skin incision. The treatment of wrinkles with hyaluronic acid involves gel injections. Once infiltrated into the skin, the gel retains water and mixes with hyaluronic acid in the dermis. The volumizing effect restores the skin to its initial appearance, the wrinkle is absorbed.
It is a biodegradable product that is naturally depleted in the body. You will therefore have to repeat the operation if you want to look younger continuously. The advantage is the reversible aspect of these interventions which is less distressing than the final aspect of certain cosmetic surgery operations.
What are the treated areas?
Hyaluronic acid is mainly used for the lower part of the face with two preferred targets: the nasolabial folds (on either side of the wings of the nose to the corners of the lips) and the bitterness folds (of each side of mouth to chin). You can also use hyaluronic acid for the treatment of cheeks, cheekbones, forehead or crow's feet. Lips are more and more often redesigned with HA.
The products in the syringes are adaptable on a case-by-case basis, we speak of "personalized injections". So all skin types are eligible for HA injections. Even dark skin (thicker and more susceptible to scarring than others) can benefit. And above all, only an experienced practitioner will be able to select the right products appropriate to the particularities of your wrinkles.
The typical session
The doctor injects the acid into the dermis a few millimeters deep. Depending on the number of wrinkles to be treated, a session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes. Even if these "bites" are bearable, it is not a pleasure either. So if you are really sensitive you can ask your practitioner to perform local anesthesia. He will apply lidocaine ointment to the area to be treated 45 minutes before the procedure.
If the doctor has had a little heavy hand on the syringe, he can massage the injected area to even the surface.
The results of hyaluronic acid:
The effect of hyaluronic acid is immediately visible. At the end of the session, your wrinkles have already disappeared, but the final result is optimal 10 days after the operation. This is the time it takes for the body to fully assimilate the acid.
Hyaluronic acid is an absorbable molecule. Its effects are therefore temporary and last on average 6 to 8 months, 12 months in the best case. Then, to keep your eternal youth, you will have to return to the doctor for more injections.
The results are different from person to person, depending on age, the area treated, whether you are a smoker or not, or how much sun exposure you have.
Contraindications to hyaluronic acid:
Although hyaluronic acid remains the safest product on the injectable anti-wrinkle market, inflammatory effects can occur. This allergic risk has been reported, but it is extremely low (1 in 2000 cases of hypersensitivity reaction have been reported).
On the other hand, the resorbable aspect of hyaluronic acid proves to be an advantage because the incidents, when they occur, are generally transient. However, if a reaction persists for more than a week after an injection, notify your practitioner.
And of course, in case of pregnancy and breastfeeding it is better to avoid all HA injections. Just like if you have progressive allergic diseases.
Even if we do not know of any major risks with hyaluronic acid injections, it is good to perform a test beforehand. This test consists of injecting a drop of HA in the forearm and waiting a week.
If it turns red or itches, it is better to give up injecting it into the wrinkles of the face.
